Adding your Sengled Hub E39-G8C (Works with Apple HomeKit)

Before getting started, it is important to remember that only the Sengled hub with model number E39-G8C can be used with Apple Home Kit. Sengled hubs with the model number Z01-Hub and Z02-Hub are not compatible with Apple Home Kit.

Once you have the correct hub in hand, we will have to choose how to set it up as there are three ways to set the hub up.

The methods for setting the hub up will be shown in order of most features available to least features available.

Using the Sengled Home app with a registered account (Traditional Method):

The traditional method is the tried-and-true method of setting the hub up like it were any other Sengled Hub.

First, download the Sengled Home app, depicted below, from the Apple App Store.

Then, tap on “Don’t Have Sengled Account”.

From here, tap on “Email address” and type in your email address; ensure your email address has been spelled correctly.

Please note: If you have already created an account in the Sengled Element Home app or the Sengled Snap app, you can use the same email address and password associated with that account.

After reading the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Privacy Statement, press the check mark indicating you agree to the previously mentioned documents.

Now, press “Next”.

From here, go to your email and type in the verification code sent by us (Sengled).

In this example, the verification code was “2tcgxs”.

Note: If you did not receive the verification code, ensure you email address is typed in correctly. At the top of the page, what you typed in on the previous page will be displayed. Double-check it to make sure it matches your email address.

Additionally, due to the delay of email refreshing when checked on phones/tablets, close the browser/app that is running your email and open it again. Refresh your inbox and be sure to check your junk/spam folder.

Once your have typed in the verification code, press “Next”.

mceclip3.png mceclip4.png

From here, set the password that will be associated with your Sengled Home app. This password is used to log you into the Sengled Home app.

Hint: Be sure to remember or write your password down as it will be required for connecting your Sengled hub, the devices on your Sengled hub and other devices controlled from your Sengled Home app to your Echo devices (Alexa) or Google Home assistants.

The password requirements are listed above. An example of an acceptable password is “Password1” as it contains: at least 8 characters, an upper-case letter, and a lower-case letter.

After typing in your password and confirming it, press “Next”.

mceclip8.png

Please note: If you have already created an account in the Sengled Element Home app or the Sengled Snap app, you can use the same email address and password associated with that account.

First login to the Sengled Home app with the email address and password that is associated with your Sengled account.

From here, press “Add Device” as indicated by the red circle.

mceclip9.png mceclip10.png

If you do, press “Start”.

Plug the hub into a wall outlet and ensure it is receiving power; if the hub is receiving power, the power indicator light on the hub will be blue.

Plug the provided Ethernet cord into your router and your hub. Please make sure the Ethernet cord is securely plugged in on both ends.

From here, wait 60 seconds.

mceclip13.png

While you are waiting, please make sure the phone or tablet you are doing the setup from is connected to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi that your hub is plugged into.

As indicated from the example photo, if your router broadcasts two WiFi signals, for example with one of them named “Support_2.4G” and the other one named “Support_5G”, make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz WiFi. In this example, we can tell the WiFi apart due to the name of the WiFi.

Since the Sengled Smart Hub cannot be setup on the 5.0 GHz and since the “Support_5G” WiFi broadcasts the 5.0 GHz as indicated by the “_5G” part of its name, we will connect to the 2.4 GHz WiFi broadcast from our router— “Support_2.4G”.

In this example, our hub is already connected via Ethernet cord to the router that broadcasts the 2.4 GHz WiFi.

Depending on your router, it may broadcast the 2.4 GHz band and the 5.0 GHz WiFi band under the same name. In this case, you may need to go into your router’s settings to split the band. If you are having trouble with this, please contact your router’s manufacturer so they can walk you through splitting the band.

After your phone is connected to your router’s 2.4 GHz WiFi and your hub has been powered on and connected to your router via Ethernet for at least 60 seconds, press “Next” to proceed.

mceclip14.png

Look at your hub and make sure the power light and the Ethernet light on your hub are on, press “Next” to proceed.

From here, the Sengled Home app will search for the hub.

mceclip15.png mceclip16.png

Note:

You must always keep the hub connected to your router via Ethernet cord.

This hub cannot be used wirelessly.

Once the hub is discovered, press “Next”.

mceclip17.png mceclip18.png

Congratulations! The hub has been setup successfully!

From here, tap on “Name Your Hub”. The name you give your hub, generally speaking, does not matter.

Once you like the name of your hub, tap “Done”.

mceclip19.png mceclip20.png

If you are ready to add some bulbs to your hub, tap on “Yes” when asked.

mceclip21.png

This article shows how to add bulbs to your hub: Adding Sengled Smart LED bulbs to your Sengled Hub (Classic Method)

Note: You would start from the "Add Device" page.

Once you have the bulbs on your hub, as shown below, we can move on to the Apple HomeKit Integration!

mceclip22.png

From here, open the Home app on your iOS device and tap "Add Accessory".

mceclip23.png mceclip24.png

Now, scan the Apple HomeKit QR code on the Sengled Hub.

mceclip25.png

Note: If your hub does not have the HomeKit QR code on it and it's model number is not E39-G8C, this means you do not have the Sengled hub that is compatible with Apple HomeKit.

That's it! All that is left to do is finish organizing things in the Home app.

The other two methods for adding the HomeKit hub will be added soon but, in the meantime, the User Guide has a quick guide on all three methods of setup; here is that guide: Sengled Hub E39-G8C Works with Apple HomeKit User Guide.pdf
