Setting up your Sengled Smart LED Bulbs with your Wink hub

Note:

The Element Classic bulbs, both the A19 and BR30 variants, are compatible with the Wink Hub. The Element Plus bulbs are compatible with the Wink hub.

The Element Color Plus bulb is not officially compatible with the Wink Hub. Compatibility is entirely determined by the hub’s manufacturer.

With that said, at the time this guide was produced and published, the Element Color Plus bulbs can be added to the Wink hub and used as intended—i.e. changing the color of the bulb and not just the color temperature.

Wink may, at any point, disable the ability of the Element Color Plus to have all its features, including but not limited to changing the color, enabled on the Wink hub. Sengled has no control over the decisions that Wink makes.

Due to the Element Color Plus not being officially compatible with the Wink hub, the bulb may not add, it may add and the Wink app will say it did not add or other issues may arise when adding the Element Plus bulbs to the Wink hub.

The instructions below will use the Element Color Plus as the example bulb but adding the Element Classic bulbs and the Element Plus bulbs is almost identical in steps.

Note:

The Sengled Element line of bulbs like most LED bulbs, cannot be used on dimmer switches. This would include wall dimmers, ceiling fan fixtures and 3-way lamps (lamps with low, medium and high power settings built-in).

Furthermore, the Sengled Element bulbs are not meant to be used in fully-enclosed fixtures. Additionally, the Sengled Element bulbs are not meant to be used outdoors.

With that said, here are the exceptions: the Element Plus bulbs can be used on certain wall dimmers; for more information about this, please visit the following link: https://support.sengled.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003534408-Compatible-Dimmers.

Before getting started, do not power your bulbs on.

1. After your Wink hub is setup, open the Wink app.

Then press the three lines in the top left corner.

From here, press “Add to Wink”.

2. Now, select “Lighting”; then press “Lights”.

This part is very important:

The Wink hub is, generally speaking, adept at identifying which bulb is which. So, for example, if you are adding two Element Classic bulbs and one Element Plus bulb, pressing “Element Plus” will allow you to connect all three bulbs at once.

Adding Element Color Plus bulbs, which are not officially supported by Wink, tends to be more reliable when you press “Element Plus” as opposed to the other options. Wink may, at any point, disable the ability of the Element Color Plus to have all its features, including but not limited to changing the color, enabled on the Wink hub. Sengled has no control over the decisions that Wink makes.

3. With that said, press “Element Plus”.

4. The following is the step by step instructions within the Wink app on how to finish step-up.

Press “Next”. Then ensure that your Wink hub is powered on, connected to the internet and working properly. From here, make sure the Wink hub is in range of the Element bulbs. The range of the bulbs is 120 feet under ideal conditions. In actuality, the range will be reduced due to a number of factors such as walls, the materials the walls are made of, wireless crowding, etc.

From here, press “Next” again.

5. At this point, power your bulbs on.

Remember, the Sengled Element line of bulbs, like most LED bulbs, cannot be used on dimmer switches.

After the bulbs are powered on, press “Next”.

6. When ready, press “Connect Now”. The Wink hub will search for the Sengled Element bulbs. This is usually a quick process. Once the bulbs are found, they will flash three times to indicate the Wink hub has found the bulbs.

7. As shown from the below screen, all seven of the Sengled Element bulbs were found (one Element Classic bulb, one Element Plus bulb and five Element Color Plus bulbs).

At this point, since we cannot identify which bulb is which, press “Get Started”.

8. This is the in-app guide on how to control your bulbs. Please read all the in-app instructions carefully as they are helpful. The instructions will cover how to control the bulbs.

Swipe right to proceed to the next set of instructions.

These steps show how to control the color and color temperature of the Element bulbs. Please note, only the bulbs with the capability of having their color and color temperature controlled will allow for such options.

For example, the Element Classic bulb cannot have its color or color temperature changed since it lacks the hardware for such

Continue to read the instructions in the Wink app. Press “Got it” when you are ready to proceed.

That is all there is to adding the bulbs to the Wink hub. The rest of this tutorial will show you how to organize your bulbs in the Wink app.

Organizing your bulbs in the Wink app

1. Tap on the bulb a few times to identify which bulb is which. Then, press and hold the circle that represents the bulb.

From here, press “Edit the light”.

2. From here, tap on “Light Bulb” to edit the name of the light bulb.

The below screen shows all of the bulbs after they have been renamed. Please note the background color of the bulbs’ icons which indicates the color to which the bulb is set.

You can, of course, press the “Groups” tab near the top of the screen to create a new group and control multiple bulbs at once.

That covers the basics. For further questions on using the Wink app, please contact Wink Support.
