Adding a Device to your Sengled Hub

There are many ways to add a device to your hub. We have guides that outline step-by-step how to add the Sengled Smart LED bulbs, the Sengled Smart LED Tunable White bulbs, the Sengled Smart LED Multicolor bulbs, the Sengled Smart LED Bright White PAR38 bulbs, and the Sengled Smart Plug.

Now, we will explore the other ways to add devices to your hub.

Alternative Method 1 (Using the Sengled Smart LED bulb as the example):

Before getting started, do not power the bulbs on first. This may cause them to fall out of their three-minute pairing mode. Make sure your phone is connected to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi that your hub is on.

With this method, we will choose the hub that the device is going to be added to first. In this example, we will be adding a Sengled Smart LED bulb to the hub.

First, navigate to the “Devices” tab is located at the bottom of the “Home” page. Tap “Devices” then you will be on the “Devices” page. From here, tap on the icon of the hub to which you wish to add a device. Since this account only has one hub associated with it, we would just tap it.

This will take you to a page that bears the hub’s name at the top.

From here, press “Add Sub Devices” to add a device.

This will bring up the “Locate the QR Code” screen. Scan the QR code on the bulb. Tap on “Scan Code” to bring up the QR code scanner.

Scan the QR code of the device. Once the QR code is scanned, the Sengled Home app will proceed to the next step.

After you have scanned the QR code of the bulb, you will be on a screen that shows you a picture of the bulb, the model number of the bulb and the MAC/ZID number of the bulb. If you have another bulb to add, press “Scan Another One”; if not, press “Next”.

After scanning the bulb(s) you wish to add to your hub and pressing “Next”, you would screw the bulb(s) into the location you want to use them in and power them on.

Note:  The Sengled Smart LED A19 bulbs and Sengled Smart LED BR30 bulbs cannot be used on dimmer switches. This would include wall dimmers, ceiling fan fixtures and 3-way lamps (lamps with low, medium and high power settings built-in).

Furthermore, the Sengled Smart LED bulbs are not meant to be used in fully-enclosed fixtures. Additionally, the Sengled Smart LED bulbs are not meant to be used outdoors.

After the bulb(s) are powered on, press “Next” on the “Turn on your Lights” screen.

From here, the scanned bulb(s) will add to your hub. They will flash three times during this process to indicate they are being added to your hub.

Once added to your hub, you will see a green checkmark next to the bulb. Press “Next” to proceed.

Once you are on the “Congratulations” screen, you can assign bulbs to a room. To visually identify which bulb you are assigning to a room, press the power button a few times until you can visually tell which bulb you are about to assign to a room in the Sengled Home app.

The rest of the examples will show the various ways to assign a bulb to a room.

mceclip5.png

In the provided example, the “Bedroom” room is selected by default; this is why the bulb is named “Bedroom Bulb 3”.

Assign the bulb to the room which corresponds to where the bulb will be used.

Below “1. Assign the device to a room”, we can choose to assign the bulb to a room that already exists in the Sengled Home app. For example, by tapping on “Living Room” the bulb will automatically be assigned to the living room; the bulb will be renamed “Living Room Bulb 1”.

mceclip6.png mceclip7.png

To see the available rooms, scroll right and left. In the following example, we scrolled rightward to see the available rooms.

We tapped on “Office” to assign the bulb to the office in the Sengled Home app.

mceclip8.png mceclip9.png

If you do not see the room you wish to assign the bulb to, tap on “Add Room”.

On the “Add a New Room” pop-up, you can tap on “room name” to create a room.

mceclip10.png mceclip11.png

In the provided example, we named the room “Hallway”. After that, we pressed “OK”.

Once the bulb is assigned to the room which corresponds to the room the bulb will be used in, press “Done”.

mceclip12.png mceclip13.png

The room information will refresh, and you will see that the total number of bulbs in the “Bedroom” is three (as indicated by the total of the numbers next to the red light bulb icon and the grey light bulb icon.)

Alternative Method 2: (This will be the scan QR code method from the Add Device page)

Before getting started, do not power the bulbs on first. This may cause them to fall out of their three-minute pairing mode. Make sure your phone is connected to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi that your hub is on.

The first thing you would want to do is open the Sengled Home app and press “More” located at the top-right of the screen. Then, press “Add Device”.

As an example, we will add the Sengled Smart LED bulb to the hub. Since we are trying to add a Sengled Smart LED bulb, we would not power it on until instructed to do so by the app.

mceclip16.png mceclip17.png

From here, press “Scan QR code” and you will see the QR code scanner on your screen.

Scan the QR code of the device. In this case, we will scan the QR code on the bulb itself.

mceclip18.png mceclip19.png

After scanning the bulb, you will select the hub to which you would like to add the device to. In this case, there is only one hub to choose from so we tap “Next”.

Once you are on the “Turn on your Lights” screen, screw the bulb into the fixture you wish to use it in and power it on. From here tap “Next” once the light is powered on.

Additionally, the Sengled Smart LED bulbs are not meant to be used outdoors.

mceclip20.png mceclip21.png

From here, the scanned bulb will add to your hub. It will flash three times during this process to indicate it is being added to your hub.

The device will now add to your hub. This could, but usually does not, take up to three minutes. After the device is added, you will be redirected to the “Congratulations” page.

mceclip22.png

Once you are on the “Congratulations” screen, you can assign a bulb to a room.

In the provided example, we tapped on “Bedroom” to add the bulb to the “Bedroom” group in the Sengled Home app. This will automatically name the bulb “Bedroom Bulb 4”. This is because it is the fourth bulb being used in the bedroom. Remember, you can always change the name of the bulb tapping on the preset name and typing in a new one.

Once you are done, press “Done”.
