Adding a Device to your Hub

There are many ways to add a device to your hub. We have guides that outline step-by-step how to add the Sengled Element Classic A19/BR30 bulbs, the Sengled Element Plus bulbs, the Element Color Plus, the Element PAR38, and the Sengled Smart Plug.

Now, we will explore the other ways to add devices to your hub.

Alternative Method 1 (Using the Element Touch bulb as the example):

Before getting started, do not power the bulbs on first. This may cause them to fall out of their three-minute pairing mode. Make sure your phone is connected to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi that your hub is on.

With this method, we will choose the hub that the device is going to be added to first. In this example, we will be adding an Element Touch to the hub.

First, navigate to the “Devices” tab is located at the bottom of the “Home” page. Tap “Devices” then you will be on the “Devices” page. From here, tap on the icon of the hub to which you wish to add a device. Since this account only has one hub associated with it, we would just tap it.

This will take you to a page that bears the hub’s name at the top.

From here, press “Add Sub Devices” to add a device.

This will bring up the “Locate the QR Code” screen. Scan the QR code on the bulb. Tap on “Scan Code” to bring up the QR code scanner.

Scan the QR code of the device. Once the QR code is scanned, the Sengled Home app will proceed to the next step.

Note: The screenshot of the Sengled Home app scanning the QR code of the Element Touch bulb was taken moments before it scanned. This is a fine example of how the QR code does not need to encompass a large area on the scanner.

Since this is an Element Touch bulb, we will have to select the correct model number. The screenshot to the left is the default model number, In the case of the correct model number, which is listed on the bulb, is “Z01-CIA19NAE26”. Tap the correct model number, which is at the top of the list.

The screenshot on the right shows the correct model number has been selected. Once that is done, press “Next”

Now, you can see the device you scanned. To add another device, press “Scan Another One”.

Once you have scanned all the devices you wished to add, press “Next”.

At this point, you will be on the “Turn on Your Lights” page. Power on the device. Once it is on, press “Next”.

From here, the scanned device(s) will add to your hub. They will flash three times during this process to indicate they are being added to your hub.

Once added to your hub, you will see a green checkmark next to the device(s). Press “Next” to proceed.

Now, you will be on a page that says “Congratulations!” Assign the bulb to a room and press “Done”.

In this example, we scrolled right on this page to see the available rooms. We tap on “Living Room” to assign the device to the “Living Room”; then we pressed “Done”.

Alternative Method 2: (This will be the scan QR code method from the Add Device page)

Before getting started, do not power the bulbs on first. This may cause them to fall out of their three-minute pairing mode. Make sure your phone is connected to the same 2.4 GHz WiFi that your hub is on.

The first thing you would want to do is open the Sengled Home app and press “More” located at the top-right of the screen. Then, press “Add Device”.

As an example, we will add the Sengled Element Classic A19 bulb to the hub. Since we are trying to add a Sengled Element bulb, we would not power it on until instructed to do so by the app.

From here, press “Scan QR code” and you will see the QR code scanner on your screen. Scan the QR code of the device. In this case, we will scan the QR code on the Sengled Element Classic A19 bulb.

After scanning the bulb, you will select the hub to which you would like to add the device to. In this case, there is only one hub to choose from.

Once you are on the “Turn on your Lights” screen, screw the bulb into the fixture you wish to use it in and power it on.

Important: Sengled Element Classic bulbs cannot be used on dimmer switches. This would include wall dimmers, ceiling fan fixtures and 3-way lamps (lamps with built-in low, medium and high power settings).

From here, the scanned bulb(s) will add to your hub. They will flash three times during this process to indicate they are being added to your hub.

The device will now add to your hub. This could, but usually does not, take up to three minutes. After the device is added, you will be redirected to the “Congratulations” page.

Once you are on the “Congratulations” screen, you can assign a bulb to a room. To visually identify which bulb you are assigning to a room, press the power button a few times until you can visually tell which bulb you are about to assign to a room in the Sengled Home app.

In the provided example, we tapped on “Bedroom” to add the bulb to the “Bedroom” group in the Sengled Home app. This will automatically name the bulb “Bedroom Bulb 4”. This is because it is the fourth bulb being used in the bedroom. Remember, you can always change the name of the bulb tapping on the preset name and typing in a new one.

Once you are done, press “Done”

The room information will refresh, and you will see that the total number of bulbs in the “Bedroom” is four (as indicated by the total of the numbers next to the red lightbulb icon and the grey lightbulb icon.)
